Aransas Bay, Corpus Christi Bay, the Upper Laguna Madre, Baffin Bay and Padre Island. Today's fishing report, plus live tides, wind and weather for all 16 towns on this stretch.
Rockport guides expect October’s higher tides to push fish onto the reefs and into the shallow corners and drains of the back lakes, where shrimp-looking soft plastics around the shell are the plan. Around Corpus Christi and Baffin, topwaters, soft plastics and slow-sinking twitchbaits are the go-to for trout and reds in less than waist-deep water.
Schools of black drum are cruising very shallow sandy flats; spot them from the bow and pitch a piece of shrimp or a Gulp. On the Upper Laguna, small topwaters, paddletails and weedless spoons help cover water when the fish are scattered. Down the Padre Island National Seashore, the bait migration along the beach is starting to take shape after a summer of cold upwellings.
