The north wind dropped Southwest Pass from about 81 to 75 degrees, its coolest water since late May. Venice guides fished right through the blow anyway: one crew boxed a full load of reds in the wind, and another captain logged redfish on five straight trips from Oct. 16 to 20.
Live shrimp has been hard to find around Venice, so bring dead shrimp or plastics as a backup. The one dated offshore trip, the day before the wind, came back with blackfin, yellowfin, cobia and a wahoo.
