Biscayne Bay, the Miami and Broward beaches, Lake Worth Lagoon and the Palm Beaches. Today's fishing report, plus live tides, wind and weather for all 23 towns on this stretch.
Northeast wind at 15 to 25 knots kept most anglers in this past week. The few boats that ran outside the reef in four-to-six-foot seas found mahi, sailfish, kingfish, bonito and blackfin. In North Biscayne Bay, trout, jacks, ladyfish and snapper were on the edges of the east-side grass flats; slow-trolling a jig finds them, then anchor and fan cast. Where birds were diving, Spanish mackerel and bluefish joined in, and in Dumfoundling Bay, mackerel, tarpon, jacks and snook were feeding on threadfin herring.
Off Fort Lauderdale earlier in the week, a big amberjack came off a deep wreck around 300 feet, the first sailfish of the fall showed up, and boats found wahoo to 45 pounds, gaffer mahi in 650 to 750 feet and blackfin. Most of the big mullet schools have moved on, replaced by small bonito and flying fish. Out of Flamingo, the backcountry creeks and shorelines held small tarpon and snook, reds, snapper and goliath grouper.
