Fishing report · Monday, Oct 26

First real front flushed the marsh. Follow the birds and the slicks.

Southwest Louisiana got its first cold front of the fall on Saturday, Oct. 17, with a 30 mph north wind behind it. Before it hit, south winds and high tides let guides on Calcasieu Lake run back into the marsh and protected bayous for redfish and trout, with a few flounder showing up. Crews who braved the wind found birds working the south end of the lake and West Cove and filled the box with trout.

Now the tide is low and the water is cooler, which flushes the bait out of the marsh and sets up schooling fish. On the big lake, watch for slicks on the surface; feeding fish leave them behind.

Shout-outs: Calcasieu Lake south end, West Cove, Hackberry, Cameron Parish marsh, Sabine Pass, Port Arthur, Nederland, Port Neches, Bridge City, Orange, Holly Beach, Cameron, Lake Charles, Grand Chenier, Pecan Island, Intracoastal City, Delcambre, Cypremort Point
